Krzysztof Komeda
The year 2021 marks the 90th anniversary of the birth of Krzysztof Komeda (aka Krzysztof Trzcinski), a Polish composer, jazz pianist and composer of popular jazz standards and film music. Komeda was one of the pioneers of modern jazz in Poland, while in the world he became famous as a creator of film music (he composed music for 65 films by such esteemed directors as Roman Polanski, Andrzej Kondratiuk, Jerzy Skolimowski, Henning Carlsen, Buzz Kulik, among others).
Zbigniew Seifert
Jazz violinist and composer Zbigniew Seifert, on the other hand, is a great innovator and creator of the original violin style, which is still considered an unsurpassed model for many generations. His musical adventure had its beginnings in Tomasz Stanko's Quintet. In the 1970s, Seifert first moved to Germany and then settled in the US, where he signed an exclusive contract with the US Capitol label. He was the only musician from Poland to achieve such great success in jazz. In 1979, he lost his battle with cancer at the age of less than 33 and - arguably - a bright, though only just opening his pages, future.
