Garana Jazz Festival is a four-day music festival held on July evenings in the small village of Gărâna in southwestern Romania. This magical place is visited by both those who want to admire the beauty of nature and jazz lovers. Indeed, the festival in Gărâna has quickly grown into the most important event of its kind in Romania and boldly competes with the largest jazz festivals in Western Europe. In front of an audience of 10,000, world jazz stars (including Mike Stern, Jan Garbarek, Charles Lloyd, Bela Fleck and many others) perform here every year. The unique atmosphere of the place and the event itself is created by the beautiful trails and landscapes of the Western Carpathians, in the heart of which Gărâna is located.
One of the highlights of this year's Garana Jazz Festival will be a special evening dedicated to Polish jazz music. Its protagonists will be both Polish jazz stars and representatives of the younger generation of the Polish jazz scene.
Titled Seifert Night, the program is a tribute by Polish jazzmen to the legendary jazz violinist and composer Zbigniew Seifert. The protagonists of the three-part evening, held as part of Romania's Garana Jazz Festival, will be two Polish jazz pianists: Leszek Możdżer, performing in a solo program, and Marcin Wasilewski, presenting his trio. In turn, the representative of the younger generation will be the triumphants of the most important jazz competitions in Poland, led by the capital vibraphonist Marcin Pater Trio.
- It is wonderful that Seifert's compositions are being reached for by Polish jazz stars, but also by young musicians. As a result, we can hear extremely interesting, sometimes surprising and innovative interpretations of jazz classics, which already include the works of our outstanding violinist and patron. This also proves that the most important mission of the Foundation is being realized - the resurrection, promotion and proper commemoration of the musical legacy that Seifert left us," adds Aneta Norek-Skrycka, president of the Zbigniew Seifert Foundation and originator of the Seifert Night series.
Implemented by the Zbigniew Seifert Foundation in cooperation with the Adam Mickiewicz Institute, the series of international Seifert Night concerts has so far been staged, among others, at renowned festivals in Berlin, Belgrade, Munich, where such distinguished Polish artists as Adam Pierończyk, Dominik Wania, Marcin Wasilewski, Mateusz Smoczyński, Piotr Damasiewicz and the EABS group have performed.
